Floorcloths date back as far as 14th century France where painted oil cloths were used as striking wall hangings and table coverings. These functional art pieces evolved into floor cloths and were introduced to North America in the 18th century. This unique art has recently been enjoying an amazing comeback! Santa Fe Drive and Taos Fine Artist Ginny Abblett will lead you in creating your own floor cloth, made from heavy canvas coated with gesso, painted with with acrylic pigment, and sealed with several coats of polyurethane. Your unique canvas can be utilized as a rug, table cover, place mats, wall hanging, and so on. Bring suitable clothing, brushes if you like, any images you might want to use, and your imagination. Work will be outside, weather permitting, utilizing the gardens as inspiration.
