Alpine Glory on West Spanish Peak, with Panayoti Kelaidis

July 16, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM
Denver Botanic Gardens

$675.00 (Member Price) / $725.00 (Non-Member Price)

We will stay in lodges on the slopes of the majestic volcano of south central Colorado, and take several field trips on these rich mountains that possess a number of unusual and rare plants including the endemic Sangre de Cristo Easter daisy (Townsendia eximia) with huge lavender flowers and the alpine cushion larkspur (Delphinium alpestre) which is one of Colorado’s most spectacular wildflowers. A delicious, gourmet daily menu will be catered by Debbie Whittaker (Herb Gourmet).
Trip fee includes transportation from Denver, four nights’ lodging, and 3 meals a day provided by personal chef Debbie Whittaker of Herb Gourmet.
Lodging for all four nights will be in a furnished private guest house on the north slope of West Spanish Peak. Participants are asked to bring their sleeping bags to minimize the need to wash our host’s linens.
Cell phone service is not likely in this remote location; please plan accordingly.
Hikes will be short and scenic; no extreme trekking experience or special gear required.
One day will be spent hiking West Spanish Peak; one day may involve more casual exploring around the lodge; and one day will be spent visiting the property, blacksmith shop and high-altitude gardens of Penn Parmenter near Westcliffe. A specific day-by-day itinerary is not available due to possible last-minute changes due to weather.
Please bring comfortable clothes with multiple layers for changing weather; sun block and a hat; sturdy hiking or walking shoes or boots; and your own water bottle. Cameras are strongly recommended!
