Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield

$41.00 (Member) / $48.00 (Non Member)

Interested in keeping a few chickens in the backyard? (Yes, it’s legal in Denver.) Kelly Simmons will show you how surprisingly easy it is to have the rewards of eggs and more. Learn the legalities of keeping chickens in the city, how to start baby chicks safely, different breeds of chickens, housing, raising chickens for eggs vs meat, diseases and predators, where to get baby chicks, what supplies and types of feed you will need, and more. This informative class will include slides, handouts and a visit to our colorful heritage chickens in the Chatfield chicken coop. If you have already ordered your chickens this spring or are planning to include some in your own ‘urban homestead’ next year, this class is for you.

Kelly Simmons is a certified Permaculture designer and teacher. She has testified to the City of Lyons on legalizing backyard chickens and offers consulting and testimony to HOAs on modifying their covenants to allow chickens.
