Reading, writing, wrapping, drawing, organizing: piles of paper pass through our fingers every day. Learn about the fascinating history and evolution of papers, both Eastern and Western, and the materials that make the paper you long to have. From fibers and additives to dyes and finishes, you’ll see what makes up the varied textures and types of paper. Experiment hands-on to see how different papers work with artistic media, how to determine the archival quality of papers, and how to select the perfect paper for your project. You’ll leave with a greater understanding of papers and a sample packet of papers you’ll stitch together yourself. Fee $39 member, $44 nonmember. All students are welcome, with no prerequisites.
