Don’t miss this special presentation in the Rocky Mountain West by W. John Kress, Curator of Botany and Research Scientist at the National Museum of Natural History and photographer Jonathan Singer. Kress and his counterparts contribute clear and accessible captions describing each plant’s botany, geography, history, and conservation. Dr. Singer’s photographs are inspired by the work of the great botanical artists that came before him and his modern digital photography possesses both the clarity and the artistry of traditional botanical illustration to reveal the delicate structures of the plants at a level of detail unachievable with brush and paint. The Abbeville Press publication Botanica Magnifica will foster a greater awareness of the plant kingdom, and of the pressing need to preserve vanishing plant species. Presented in a collector s slipcase, the publication will sell at this event for at a special pre-publication price of $135. An additional book by Dr. Kress, The Weeping Goldsmith: Discoveries in the Secret Land of Myanmar, will also be available for purchase and signing ($45). Free program. Register in advance to reserve your space, or a book to purchase that night.
