Spend a day learning all about how to plan, plant and cook from your own garden with Master Gardener Betty Cahill. In the morning, join in a fun and informative discussion on getting ready for the garden season. Learn about local and mail-order companies that specialize in quality seeds, plants and supplies; area plant sales; how to incorporate new plants into existing gardens; tips for a low maintenance garden; container gardening; and simple raised beds. Betty will provide a variety of lists and resources for you to take home and use in planning your own garden. Roll up your sleeves and pitch in to help Betty prepare a spring pesto chicken dish and tossed salad for lunch, then take a break and enjoy a walk around the Gardens.
In the afternoon, enjoy a second program all about herbs, one of the easiest groups of plants to grow in your garden. We’ll cover planting, growing and care of several perennial and annual herbs that do especially well in our area, as well as harvest and cooking tips so you’ll be ready this spring and summer to enhance your meals and impress your friends! Conclude the day by planting your own herb or lettuce container garden to take home and set on your windowsill.
Please bring a container from home (8-12") and a pair of gloves. $60 member, $70 non-member, includes soil, seeds and lunch. Registration deadline: March 8.
